On 24 February Ambassador Abdulhadi and GDOP staff attended a business dinner in Canberra organised by the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network (APAN). Senator the Honourable Penny Wong was the main speaker at this event.

In her speech, Senator the Honourable Penny Wong highlighted her position of calling on the next Labor government to recognise the State of Palestine and to strengthen international law. She also highlighted that settlements are illegal by international law and urged all parties to avoid unilateral actions which would be considered an obstacle in the peace process. She was also critical to the UNRWA funding cuts and funding cuts to aid to Palestinian civil society organisations. Her speech was followed by a Q&A and many who attended were eager to ask questions and thank her for her participation in this event.

The evening also held a Dabke performance by Palestinian youth, as well as two speeches by young Palestinians who advocate for justice and peace in Palestine.

This event was also attended by politicians and members of the International Diplomatic Corps.
