WAFA News Agency, Ramallah 12/09/2015 – President of the State of Palestine H.E. Mahmoud Abbas received New Zealand Prime Ministerial envoy Sir James MacLay on Saturday evening at the Presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
H.E President Abbas briefed the guest on the latest developments taking place in the Palestinian territories and the political process that has reached an impasse due to Israeli intransigence.
The President confirmed the Palestinian commitment to the peace process based on existing resolutions, which hold international legitimacy, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the Palestinian capital.
The President affirmed the United Nations agreement to raise the Palestinian flag in front of the United Nations premises as a victory of the Palestinian people and as an important step towards the achievement of Palestinian freedom and independence.
The President also thanked the government and people of New Zealand for voting in favour of raising the status of Palestine to an observer state in 2012 and for voting in favour of raising the Palestinian flag at the United Nations premises.
In response, the New Zealand envoy confirmed his country’s support for a peaceful resolution to the conflict based on the principle of a two-state solution as the pathway towards achieving stability and security in the region.
