The Ambassador and staff of the General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific would like to take the opportunity of the beginning of Ramadan to wish the Muslim, Arab and Palestinian communities in Australia and worldwide a blessed Ramadan and a rewarding fasting.

Ramadan is a month for love, tolerance, cohesion, coexistence and unity. It is crucial in current times to appreciate these qualities of Ramadan, when there is a distortion and hijacking of the real Islam and its great values. Islamic values constitute an integral part of the international principles for justice, peace, humanity and global democracy.

I cannot help, when reflecting on the meaning and spirituality of this holy month, but to think of the Palestinian people, who are enduring the Israeli occupation and its cruel practices on a daily basis. They are denied the basic rights to freedom, justice, dignity, and self-determination in their homeland.

So, I hope that Ramadan will also inspire and unify us all to do more for the liberation of Palestine and for the establishment of our sovereign, independent, viable and democratic state, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Ramadan Mubarak.

Ambassador Izzat Abdulhadi

Head of the General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific
