The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates strongly condemns the opening of Papua New Guinea's embassy in occupied Jerusalem as a blatant violation of international law and United Nations resolutions regarding the legal and political status of the Holy City, and of the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Michael Lynk, former Special Rapporteur noted that the study finds many parallels between the situation in the State of Palestine today and South Africa’s apartheid rule over Namibia 50 years ago. Due to the illegality of its occupation, Israel is obliged to withdraw from the Occupied Palestinian Territory immediately, completely and unconditionally. Further, Israel is responsible for reparations. The international community must move away from the “land-for-peace” paradigm and towards Israel’s complete withdrawal to the 1967 lines.

The protest movement initially tried to remain apart from the struggle against the occupation and the right of Palestinian self-determination, but now its leaders are beginning to understand that the two are inseparable.
