Today's letter to Secretary-General, President of the General Assembly and President of the Security Council (Spain).

"Since our last letter to you, on 12 October 2015, the Palestinian civilian population, including women and children, have continued to be killed, injured and terrorized as a result of Israel’s latest rampage of aggression throughout the Occupied State of Palestine, including East Jerusalem. As we continue to write these letters, we must emphasize that the purpose of writing them is not only to place on record the long list of crimes committed by the occupying Power against a defenseless and occupied civilian population but aimed at mobilizing the international community, in particular the Security Council, to immediately act to halt all of the occupying Power’s violations of international law, including humanitarian and human rights law."

"Each day that passes, more innocent lives are lost as is any hope to reach a peaceful two-State solution in the future. The following are just some tragic examples of the latest Palestinian casualties and human rights violations caused by the brutal raids and attacks of the occupying forces and their terrorist settlers over the past three days. The list also includes some additional violations by the Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinian population under its occupation:"

Dr. Saeb Erekat, Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization, today held the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the State of Israel responsible for the current situation.


During a press conference this morning, Erekat explained: “Israel has been carrying out organized terrorism and systematic incitement against the people of Palestine, and therefore the current situation should be considered as a natural consequence of decades of occupation, humiliation, oppression and racist policies.”

Al-Haq is deeply concerned about the deteriorating situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), and its severe impact on Palestinian lives. Since 1 October 2015, the Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) have killed 20 and injured at least 1000 Palestinians. Four Palestinian homes have been punitively demolished. Additionally, Israeli settlers, often with the presence of IOF, have increased their attacks against Palestinian civilians and their property. Al-Haq further condemns Israel’s targeting of Occupied East Jerusalem.

PLO Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi said:

“By calling on Israeli Jewish citizens to openly carry arms, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is giving them license to shoot at will and execute Palestinians on the spot. This proves that the Israeli government is transforming its own public into vigilantes and gangsters following the official Israeli policy of land theft and summary executions, while providing incentives and protection to settler terrorists. It has thereby generated a culture of hate, racism and violence and translated Israel’s state impunity into lawlessness and individual impunity for its own citizens.

Follow-up identical letter to Secretary-General, President of the General Assembly and President of the Security Council (Spain) on the intensifying aggression by Israel, the occupying Power, against the Palestinian people in the Occupied State of Palestine, including East Jerusalem, appealing to the international community, particularly the Security Council, to act immediately to halt all Israeli violations of international law, including humanitarian law and human rights law, against the unprotected, defenseless Palestinian civilian population

The PLO Executive Committee held its meeting headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, where they examined the current situation resulting from the Israeli Government decision of declaring war on the Palestinian people and their government, including the continues attempts of temporal and spatial division of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. In addition to the Judaization of Jerusalem, the increasing settlement activities, the conversion of outposts to settlements, land confiscation, home demolitions, forcible displacement and killings. As well as the incursions into Palestinian cities, villages and refugee camps, and the constriction of all shapes. Further, the criminal collective punishment by the occupying power (Israel) used against the Palestinian people and the Israeli settler-terrorism accompanied and protected by the Israeli army in various districts of Palestine, including the capital of the State of Palestine Occupied Jerusalem, which led to the martyrdom and wounding of hundreds of Palestinians in recent days.

The Israeli government has continued its intentional targeting and collective punishment of the Palestinian civilian population, a breach of its obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention, and a war crime under international law.

Mr. Netanyahu’s announcement is a reminder to the international community of the urgent need for international intervention to protect the occupied Palestinian people from relentless attack by the Israeli military forces and terrorist settlers.

PLO Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi said:

“The Palestinian people, like all peoples of conscience and moral responsibility, condemn the use of violence against innocent civilians. However, Palestine, under Israel’s belligerent occupation, has been subject to the systematic and escalating violence of the occupation, whether in the form of settler-terrorism or at the hands of the Israeli military using live ammunition. Recently Palestine has witnessed an alarming and deliberate escalation by Israel, particularly against Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem’s Old City, while settlers on the rampage enjoy the protection of occupation forces and the political backing of the Israeli government.

2015 also saw Ambassador Abdulhadi of the General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific make a successful visit to Timor-Leste, one of Australia’s close neighbours.
