Official Opening of Punchbowl Mosque
At the invitation of Human Appeal Australia (HAA), Ambassador Abdulhadi participated in the official opening of Punchbowl Mosque on 27 January, 2023.
The opening ceremony was attended by Australian MPs and other officials, members of the clergy, the Governor of NSW, members of the International Diplomatic Corp and the Muslim community. The attendees also participated in a lunch, and speeches were delivered on the occasion by MC Mr Chaaban Omran [Treasurer of Australian Islamic Mission], Mr Bashar Al-Jamal [President of Australian Islamic Mission], Her Excellency the Hon Margaret Beazley AC KC [Governor of NSW], the Hon Tony Burke MP [Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Minister for the Arts, and Member for Watson], the Hon Mark Coure MP [Minister for Multiculturalism, Minister for Seniors, and Member for Oatley], Mr Khaled Almula [the Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation], Mr Jihad Dib MP [Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change, and Member for Lakemba].
The Punchbowl Mosque was designed by Angelo Candalepas and Associates for the Australian Islamic Mission, and has been described as a "modern achitectural masterpiece" by the director of the Sydney Architectural Festival.
