Sir Jim McLay Secures title as the New Zealand Representative to Palestine
After the diplomatic stalemate with Israel over the appointment of an Ambassador to cover both Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, in February 2015 a resolution was found, with Sir Jim McClay being appointed New Zealand’s Representative to the Palestinian Authority. Mr. McClay has an illustrious diplomatic and political career, and was previously Permanent Representative to the United Nations, leading the successful campaign for New Zealand’s election to a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council. In addition to his appointment as Representative to the Palestinian Authority, McClay is also Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Special Envoy for the Prime Minister. While he is based in Wellington, since his appointment he has visited Palestine twice.
