Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Welcomes Announcement of Imminent UK Recognition of the State of Palestine
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine welcomes the announcement by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine this coming September — a commitment he reaffirmed during a phone call with the President of the State of Palestine, His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas.
The Ministry considers this a courageous step that places the UK on the right side of history.
The Ministry also appreciates the UK’s position on the appalling situation of the Palestinian people, especially in the besieged Gaza Strip, and its support for enabling the State of Palestine to exercise its political and legal authority over the entirety of the occupied Palestinian territories (the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem), as a pathway toward achieving peace in accordance with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Ministry renews its call on all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take this overdue step without further delay, in order to safeguard the two-state solution and as an important step in confronting the crimes of genocide, forced displacement, deliberate starvation, and annexation being committed against the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
The General Delegation of Palestine in Canberra calls upon the governments of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to immediately join this global moral momentum and recognize the State of Palestine, in alignment with international law and international legitimacy.
ترحب وزارة الخارجية والمغتربين بإعلان رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر عزم المملكة المتحدة الاعتراف بدولة فلسطين في أيلول المقبل، وهو ما أكده عليه رئيس الوزراء ستارمر في مكالمته الهاتفية مع السيد الرئيس محمود عباس، وتعتبره اعترافاً شجاعاً يمهد لوقوف بريطانيا في الجانب الصحيح من التاريخ، كما تثمن الوزارة الموقف البريطاني بشأن أوضاع شعبنا عامة وفي قطاع غزة بشكل خاص ودعمها لتمكين دولة فلسطين من ممارسة ولايتها السياسية والقانونية على كامل الأرض الفلسطينية المحتلة عام ١٩٦٧، بما يؤدي إلى تحقيق السلام وفقاً لقرارات الشرعية الدولية ومبادرة السلام العربية.
تطالب الوزارة مجدداً الدول التي لم تعترف بعد بدولة فلسطين المبادرة لهذا الاعتراف حماية لحل الدولتين وكجراء مهم في مواجهة جرائم الإبادة والتهجير والضم التي يتعرض لها الشعب الفلسطيني.
