Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Welcomes Announcement of Australia's Recognition of the State of Palestine in September
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the State of Palestine warmly welcomes the announcement made by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of his country’s intention to recognize the State of Palestine next month at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Australia’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine is consistent with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, and represents a concrete step towards achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with the two-state solution.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry expresses its appreciation to Australia for this historic and principled position, and reaffirms the State of Palestine’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and diplomatic relations with Australia across all spheres.
The Ministry again calls on all states that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to immediately take the initiative to do so, in order to safeguard the two-state solution and to strengthen the prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, the Arab Peace Initiative, and the recent New York Declaration.
