UNGA Votes to Endorse New York Declaration on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution
The General Delegation of Palestine to Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific welcomes the overwhelmingly positive voting by the majority of United Nations Member States in favour of endorsing the “New York Declaration”, the outcome document of the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, which was co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia on 28-30 July and will resume on 22 September. The resolution passed with 142 votes in favour and 10 votes against, with 12 abstentions.
The General Delegation of Palestine expresses its appreciation and gratitude to all states that sponsored, supported, and voted in favour of this resolution, and warmly welcomes the positive votes by Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, Timor-Leste, Solomon Islands, and the Marshall Islands as a substantial step towards achieving a just and lasting peace in the region based on the effective implementation of the two-State solution. The upcoming resumption of the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution on 22 September offers another critical opportunity for states in this regard.
The General Delegation of Palestine further expresses its utmost gratitude to France and Saudi Arabia for their leadership as Co-Chairs of the Conference, and for their vital subsequent efforts to transform the “New York Declaration” into a concrete plan of action for the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-State solution, with clear steps across the political, economic, legal, humanitarian, and security tracks.
The State of Palestine calls on all states to implement the “New York Declaration” and its annex in order to realise the two-State solution and to exert pressure on Israel, the unlawful occupying power, to end its genocidal aggression, stop the man-made starvation it is using as a weapon of war, prevent forced displacement, and secure the release of prisoners and hostages.
The State of Palestine additionally calls for the activation of all available mechanisms to end Israel’s colonial occupation, achieve the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and implement the two-State solution, as the only viable path forward in the face of genocidal aggression, criminality, and illegal settlement expansion.
