Welcoming the decision of French President Emmanuel Macron to recognize the State of Palestine
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates warmly welcomes the decision of His Excellency Emmanuel Macron, President of France, to recognize the State of Palestine as an expression of France's commitment to international law and to resolving the conflict through political means, in line with the two-state solution and with relevant United Nations’ resolutions, towards achieving a lasting peace in the region and around the world.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry expresses its gratitude and appreciation to His Excellency President Macron and to the government and people of the friendly Republic of France for this historic decision, which President Macron affirmed in his response to the letter of His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas and its contents.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry calls on countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to initiate such recognition, and calls on all countries of the world to actively and effectively participate in the upcoming UN conference to be held in New York from 28-29 July, and to take concrete measures to salvage the two-state solution and prospects for achieving a lasting peace.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers this decision a victory for Palestinian diplomacy, led by His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas, and the efforts of brotherly Arab states in supporting the just and legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, especially the tremendous efforts initiated by the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards achieving worldwide recognition of the State of Palestine.
In this pivotal moment, the General Delegation of Palestine in Canberra calls upon the governments of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to join global consensus and immediately recognize the State of Palestine in order to salvage the two-state solution and prospects for peace in the region.
