Australia

Formal bilateral relations between Australia and Palestine were initiated in 1982 upon the establishment of the Palestine Information Office in Canberra. This diplomatic mission was recognised by the Australian Government in 1989 as the official representative office of the Palestine Liberation Organisation. The status of this office was upgraded to The General Delegation of Palestine (GDOP) in 1994. The Australian Government reciprocated in 2000 by opening the Australian Representative Office (ARO) in Ramallah. The dedicated work of the GDOP and ARO has facilitated Palestine’s strong relations with the Australian Government and its various departments, most notably the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
