The following letter was sent by Dr. Ashrawi to all involved countries in today's brutal attack on foreign diplomats in the Jordan Valley.

H.E Herve Magro,
Consul General of France

Dear Mr. Magro,

On behalf of the Palestinian leadership, I condemn in the strongest terms the brutal attack on your representative’s person and dignity by the Israeli occupation forces. This measure is yet another example of the Israeli policies that aim at preventing any attempt to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people, let alone ending the occupation. The assault on a group of foreign diplomats who were conducting their humanitarian responsibilities is not only a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and international comity, but a strong statement by the Israeli government’s bullying of the international community, preventing it from exercising its role in finding a peaceful end to the Israeli occupation and the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This attack exposes the Israeli government’s aim of continuing its colonization and Apartheid policies, thereby ending the two-state solution. This attack highlights the culture of impunity that Israel has enjoyed, acting as a state above the law, violating once again all international norms and the requirement of propriety. This is a sample of what the Palestinian people has been subjected to since the beginning of the occupation.

We call upon your government to hold Israel accountable for this serious attack and attempt at deliberating intimidation. Failing to do so will send Israel the message that it can continue to pursue policies of intransigence and aggression.

Kindly accept the Palestinian people’s gratitude and appreciation for your work in support of the Palestinian people and in seeking a just peace.

We wish a complete and speedy recovery to those who have been subjected to such harsh treatment.

Kind Regards,

Hanan Ashrawi, Ph.D.
