PLO Executive Committee member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, met with French Consul General, Hervé Magro, at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah.

Both parties discussed the latest Palestinian political developments, including the Palestinian bid at the UN Security Council and future political initiatives, the Cairo donor conference for Gaza, the immediate delivery of emergency relief to the people of Gaza, and short-term and long-term reconstruction and development in Gaza, as well as issues of mutual interest and cooperation.

In the meeting, Dr. Ashrawi expressed her appreciation for the French position, particularly in support of the notion of a clear political dimension and framework in order to end the occupation of Palestine and to establish the independent Palestinian state on the 1967 boundaries with Jerusalem as its capital. She also expressed hope that France will recognize the State of Palestine in the near future.

Dr. Ashrawi stressed, “The status quo is untenable; we are witnessing the end of the two-state solution. Thus, it is of the utmost urgency for Europe and other members of the international community to recognize the State of Palestine, to adopt bold political steps and undertake a serious initiative to address Israel’s ongoing violations of international law, and to put an end to Israel’s impunity and its military occupation of Palestine.”
