Presidency: Stopping settlements and ending occupation are one package to achieve peace and security
(WAFA) – Stopping settlements and ending the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine is one integrated package to ensure the achievement of peace, security and stability in the region, today said the official spokesman for the Palestinian Presidency, Nabil Abu Rudeineh.
Abu Rudeineh's remarks came in response to statements by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office in which he denied that there is a freeze on settlement construction, saying, "There is no and was never a freeze."
“Without changing the Israeli policy that seeks to annex, expand and perpetuate the occupation, the entire region will be at a dangerous historical and strategic crossroads,” said the official spokesman.
“What is required is to pressure Israel in a practical and immediate manner, away from statements and words, and obliging it to implement the decisions of the international legitimacy, foremost of which is the cessation of settlement activities that violate international law, especially Resolution 2334, because the conditions on the ground can no longer tolerate more condemnations without results,” he added.
The official presidential spokesman stressed that all the projects that the occupation authorities are trying to implement to sustain the occupation will not achieve anything with the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land, and with the strong Palestinian efforts on the international arena, which showed a weakness in Israel’s capability due to its disregard for the international legitimacy and international law. The official Palestinian position is clear and is based on the national constants, the international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
