During its weekly meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister, Dr. Salam Fayyad, the Cabinet was briefed by the Prime Minister on the ongoing discussions and consultations about the draft budget bill, including the latest meeting held by the Coalition of Accountability and Integrity (AMAN) on Monday, which was attended by civil society representatives and experts. The Cabinet affirmed it shall conclude its discussion on the draft budget bill upon completion of consultations.

Senior churchman says Christians and Muslims need military permission to pray

The retired Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Michal Sabbah, has pointed out that Christians and Muslims living in the Holy Land "have needed military permission to pray since 1993". Archbishop Sabbah was speaking in the context of another high-profile visitor to Israel - Barack Obama who won’t make a difference to the conditions for Palestinians.
"All world leaders visit us," he told Italian news agency AKI, "they come and go, but our reality has not changed. We keep living in the same conditions."

UN Human Rights Council passes 5 new resolutions condemning Israel

The Council calls upon Israel to comply with relevant resolutions and to desist from its continuous building of settlements. The Council determines that all legislative and administrative measures and actions taken or to be taken by Israel that seek to alter the character and legal status of the occupied Syrian Golan are null and void and have no legal effect. The Council requests the Secretary-General to report on this matter to the Council at its twenty-fifth session.

Prime Minister Salam Fayyad will head the Palestinian delegation to the spring meeting of the ad-hoc liaison committee of donor countries, due to convene in Brussels on 19 March 2013. The delegation will present a report outlining the vital importance of removing all imposed restrictions on Palestinian movement and economic activity in Area 'C', including East Jerusalem in order for the Palestinian people to exercise their right to development and exercise sovereignty over the territory of the State of Palestine.

JERUSALEM, March 12, 2013 – The World Bank’s latest Economic Monitoring Report stresses that while the donor community’s efforts are directed towards short-term relief for Palestinian fiscal stress, it is important to recognize that the prolonged system of closures and restrictions is causing lasting damage to the competitiveness of the Palestinian economy.
The report entitled Fiscal Challenges and Long Term Economic Costs was released today ahead of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee (AHLC) meeting, a forum of donors to the Palestinian Authority (PA), which will meet in Brussels on March 19. The report analyzes the state of the Palestinian economy and the PA’s fiscal position.

Dr. Ashrawi Receives Letter from European High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton

Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, PLO Executive Committee member, received a letter from Catherine Ashton, European High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on March 6. The letter was in response to a correspondence that Dr. Ashrawi sent the High Representative in December which discussed Israel's latest violations of international law which constitute a continuation of a preexisting Israeli policy to intensify and escalate settlement activity and land theft.
